Grave Art

Though the subject is grave our way of marking death is not always so and occasionally the result is a kind of sublime art. Grave Art.

For a decade I’ve photographed in Nunhead, Camberwell Old and Camberwell New Cemeteries. My intention is to celebrate these south London cemeteries. Some photos depict humour or absurdity, others portray a devil-may-care attitude. There are poignant images, too, but I try to veer from the tragic and avoid angels (tempting though they are).

The results are published here.
